Peter Hughes BURN Foundation - Improving the lives of BURN survivors
With medical advances in research and burn injury treatment, we are seeing a growing number of people survive what has been described as the largest insult the human body can endure. People with a severe burn injury often feel very uncertain about their future. The shock of aggressive treatment and possible disfigurement can turn their world upside down, leaving them to feel helpless and alone. With support comes independence, without it the trauma lasts a lifetime!
The Peter Hughes BURN Foundation is a not-for-profit registered charity dedicated to making a difference to the lives of burn survivors and their families. The Foundation offers assistance with psychosocial issues on how to fit back into the community, supports counseling and educational programmes, funds research and provides forums where burn survivors and their families can share their experiences.
Peter Hughes Burn Foundation New Board 2010
Hello All Members,
The Peter Hughes Burn Foundation (PHBF) had its Annual General Meeting on the 30/01/2010 and elected its new Board Members. Firstly a big thank you to past President Karen Moran for the good work you have done.
I have been elected the new President which is a big honour for me and I will give it my best to continue the good work. This is an exciting new year for the PHBF with the name change and other projects we have in motion which you all will be advised of shortly.
Let me reiterate that this is our Foundation (all members) and the Board only steers the ship and without the members support and input we (the Board) can only make decisions on what information we receive. Communication is the biggest tool this Foundation can use so if you have any ideas please do not hesitate to email them to us.
Also there are a members that have asked to be volunteers for the Foundation and it will be you that will help us help those that need it. Some of our members came to the Foundation as victims then progressed to Survivors and are now contributing volunteers something they would not have imagined would happen, well done to all of you.

The PHBF will be holding its next Living Skills Enhancement Retreat in Melbourne from the 14th to 17th May 2010 at Urban Camp next to Melbourne Zoo. These retreats have been a successful part in the emotional recovery of a Burn Survivor’s journey and all Burn Survivors should attend if possible.
Attached is an Expression of Interest Form which can be downloaded and posted to the address on the bottom of the form to help us in determining the numbers we have to cater for.
