Ground rules for our moderated list

  • The email Elist exists to provide burn injury support.
  • Anyone with a legitimate interest in burn injuries is welcome to join.
  • Our subscribers are multi-cultural, multi-national, and of every race, creed and sexual orientation. Please respect individual differences.
  • Political, religious and legal liability issues cannot be discussed on the burn support list.
  • You are not required to post messages to remain a member.
  • Feelings are not to be judged, they are neither right nor wrong. Allow people to have the space for their true feelings by showing respect.
  • No judgment of other people’s sharing.
  • It is helpful to offer caring, support and suggestions about how you got through a similar rough spot in the road.
  • It is not okay to try to talk people out of their feelings or to discount feelings in any way.
  • There are many ways to express spirituality and this is a very personal and individual choice. It is not permitted to use this site as a forum to promote your beliefs. You may share that your belief helped you through a rough time. You cannot tell others how or what to believe or who to worship (or not, as the case may be).
  • The Elist is not a place to promote organisations, causes or solicit funds. (If you would like to provide information on resources that have assisted you in your recovery that is okay) A link to other resources is available on the web site. We are committed to sharing all available resources for burn survivors; just not through the email list.
  • Don’t post virus warnings or forward non-burn related messages to the list. This is considered spam.
  • Do not give medical advice. Sharing what helped you personally is permissible as long as you include a disclaimer to the effect of "this helped me".
  • No post of a sexually explicit or offensive nature. No profanity.
  • Make sure the subject line clearly reflects the content of your post.
  • Selectively edit your message. Do not reply to entire messages.
  • Please express yourself clearly. Use your spell and grammar checking utilities as needed. Spelling or syntax errors can result in words having a very different meaning than that intended.
  • Private posts are to go to the individual, not to the entire list.
  • No flaming. Take your grievances to private email.
  • Do not forward private email to the list.
  • Any post that does not meet the Email Ground Rules may be deleted without explanation.
