How safe is your home?

  • Keep everything a safe distance (one metre) away from heaters.
  • Have the chimney or flue cleaned and checked before first winter fire.
  • Always have the screen in front of a fire.
  • Check all power cords are not frayed or damaged.
  • Never leave cooking unattended.
  • Don't have flammable materials near the stove top.
  • Install smoke alarms, test them regularly, change batteries every year.
  • Never smoke in bed!.

When storing electric blankets

  • Fold loosely or roll up.
  • Check for damage or scorching.
  • Always tie the blanket flat.
  • Don't forget to turn it OFF! 
  • Don't deadlock the door while home, in an emergency you need to get out quickly!!.
  • Store flammable liquids separately from chemicals.
  • Store flammable liquids and chemicals away from a child's reach!.
  • Store flammable liquids and chemicals away from electrical outlets.
  • Don't overload power points. Use a powerboard with an overload switch.
  • Install an Earth Leakage switch.
  • Have a big house number that can be easily seen at night!.

In Case of Fire:-

  • Have an Evacuation Plan.
  • THE IMPORTANCE OF AN EVACUATION PLAN
  • Stay below the smoke layer.
  • Leave the house quickly, close the door behind you.
  • Call the Fire Brigade on 000.
  • NEVER go back inside!!
