Post Acute Care
There is a great need to assist burn survivors in the transition from acute care within burn units to returning to their family home. Transitional, or step down, facilities are an essential part of the recovery process, and are universally accepted. The Peter Hughes Burn Foundation is working with leading hospitals to develop and fund these facilities.
"Compared to other western countries, rehab is underdeveloped here and the need for extended and intensive rehab after severe burns is universally accepted. This is probably the biggest undertaking to improve burns treatment in Australia"
Dr Peter K.M. Maitz, AM, Medical Director, Concord Burns Unit
